Playback in Montréal!

Here we (mostly) all are with a birthday cake for Playback — celebrating 50 years this year: 1975-2025!

When the opportunity to train with Playback’s co-founder Jo Salas in Montreal, QC, arose, I did not hesitate. I knew that my love for Québec, Playback, and the French language was all converging for a reason.

I spent four days learning from a Master Teacher on the art of conducting in Playback and taking in all of the sights, sounds, culture, and LIFE that Montréal offers… WOW!

The lessons (and copious notes taken) will continue to be distilled in my own playback practice. Learning from Jo Salas felt like taking a dip in a fresh mountain lake, fed by glacial waters: cool, refreshing, and a total immersion into the source of Playback. It wasn’t until I was immersed in the learning that I realized how much I needed this training!

There are currently four Playback companies in Montreal, a thriving scene by any measure. Meeting and playing with my colleagues in French and English brought such joy to my spirit. I did not capture nearly enough of the training in photos, but I couldn’t resist all of the street art. What a vibrant city, choc full of humanity!

With Jo Salas on the last day of the training.

So much charm!
