Playback at Church!
This Sunday I had the honor of performing solo playback at The Neighborhood Church in Bath, Maine. It was my second time sharing the art of playback with this welcoming and warm community, after my earlier visit in June of this year.
What a palpable feeling of our shared humanity Playback offers all who are present! Our prompt question was “What grows in the dark?” and we had time to hear from two “neighbors” who told very different stories on that theme.
A very different scene outside this time than when I was at The Neighborhood in June!
One young person told the story of their coming out of the closet as Trans and how they’ve found community, love, and the support to shine as their authentic self!
Another older person told the memory of swallowing a penny as a small child and keeping it a secret for most of his life. His was a story of hiding, not telling others the truth out of a fear of what they would think. Throughout his life this person has sought the recognition and acceptance of those around him.
These very human stories of finding and seeking our truth and being accepted for exactly who and how we are were both beautiful examples of the potent, relatable tellings that emerge at a Playback performance.
