Juneteenth
I recently learned of Community Documentary Night, where groups of people gather on Zoom to discuss a documentary they’ve all watched beforehand.
In honor of Juneteenth this week, I am sharing this pdf with embedded links to watch dozens of poignant, award-winning documentaries. For free.
I recently watched a biography of W.E.B. Du Bois and was stunned by how little I knew of this powerhouse of a man: sociologist, writer, historian, academic, social movement shaper, activist, publisher, husband, artist, father, researcher… whose life spanned the period of Reconstruction through the beginning of the Civil Rights.
As a White woman in America I have learned so little in my formal education of the History of this country. It’s why continuing my education and broadening my perspective is something I am committed to doing.
If you are a White Woman in America, I encourage you to attend the next info session for a group I belong to called Tapestry. The education and community supports me in facing my ignorance head on and confronting my own biases and racism. The sisterhood also helps keeps me accountable to doing this work and “getting off the porch,” as we say.
