“Together is better.”

Maybe you’ve heard that and thought: Yea, right. Well, when it comes to learning and growing I can attest to the power of posse. Why? Let me share a few of my personal reasons…

We are each other’s mirrors.

When I see the way you rise up, or shrink down, I see how and when I do the same. You inspire me, and you warn me. We are each other’s mirrors and we are here to witness our growth and our stagnation.

You help me show up.

Knowing you will be there, I show up. And showing up is most of the work!

I hear myself more clearly.

Isn’t it amazing how we can talk to ourselves inside our heads and be so convincing! As soon as I try to pull some of those same excuses out and say them aloud to another person… Woah! I am faced with a reality check! Is that really how I feel/what I mean/how I think? You help me clarify.

When I am talking to you, I use “I” statements.

That’s right, I am impeccable with my language when I am sharing with you one on one or in a group. I can’t get away with “when you do this, then you feel this way” — Nope! I say “when I do this I feel this” — since you are right there reminding me that I don’t know what your experience is, only my own!

I’ve been thinking about the power of posse and I gear up to host a virtual book club beginning this week, reading Cate Stillman’s book Body Thrive. We have a lovely group of women (men are welcome too!) gathering to read, share and grow together over the next ten weeks. It’s totally free and open for you to join us if you feel the call.
