EARTHSONG
We continue our month of April focusing on the Earth in Nia class with the classic body of work created by Carlos Aya Rosas called EarthSong.
EarthSong blends meditative sounds with rhythmic beats to channel the range of emotive, expressive release that is part of the signature of the Nia Technique. The original focus of EarthSong is the one point, also called the lower dantian, the body’s center of balance and gravity.
Located a couple of inches below the belly button in the center of the body, the one point is present throughout this body of work as we move and sense relationship with this point and the body’s upper and lower extremities.
The intent of this focus is to direct all the movements from the body’s center, the one point.
I find moving to this work gives me a renewed sense of groundedness and connection to Earth’s gravitational pull—a dance with gravity!
